Cook Stayed Here!

and like Cook we also found a safe anchorage.

The then Lieutenant James Cook on his discovery voyage of The New Found Land (Australia) first set foot at this point on the 24th May in 1770.

The town was named in this honor and a monument laid near the spot where Cook and Joseph Banks came ashore.

The Town of 1770 is nestled on the western side of a peninsula over looking one of the most magnificent views of Bustard Bay and Round Hill Creek.

Watch this Spot!

The Town of 1770 is one of the few places on the East coast of Australia where you can stand on land, looking over water, and watch the sun go down over land.

These sunsets are a wondrous sight and it has become a ritual with many visitors to sit on the beach with a drink and spend a quiet hour watching the sun disappear over the hills.

Bustard Head!

Looking back to 1770

Bustard Head Light House is situated on the headland at the northern end of  Bustard Bay and was first manned  in 1868. It has an interesting history of it's own, with at least one book written about it.
